Green beans with garlic and almonds.

Green beans are probably the most common side dish to accompany many meat and fish dishes. In fact, they are easy to prepare and can be eaten steamed, boiled, stir-fried, or baked.

They are widely available throughout the year and you can find them in most supermarkets and grocery stores. You can buy them organic, fresh, frozen or even canned.
I personally like to cook with fresh beans however frozen ones are great too and I sometimes use them in soups, salads and also in rice.

Green Beans are very popular during the holiday season as a side dish particularly with Turkey during Thanksgiving as well as Christmas.
My personal best preference is to have green beans as a side to a medium rib-eye or fillet steak and some mashed potatoes.

Ingredients needed

This Garlic Green Beans recipe calls for few ingredients; fresh green beans, thinly chopped garlic, slivered almonds and olive oil. You can add salt flakes to taste.

how to cook green beans

First, cut off the top and bottom points of the green beans, rinse well and set aside.
In a deep saucepan, cover the beans with water and bring to the boil. Let cook until just tender. This should not take more than 2-3 minutes. Remove from hot water and place the beans in ice cold water to stop the cooking process. This way the beans maintain their green color and a nice crunch.

While the beans are soaked in ice water, heat up the oil in a pan and saute the garlic until light brown. Add the green beans and almonds and stir for a couple of minutes to coat the beans with the garlic oil.
Transfer out to a serving plate, sprinkle with slat flakes and serve immediately.
