Spiced Yogurt Sauce—this Mediterranean Spiced Yogurt Sauce is creamy, fresh and very delicious. Made with yogurt, cucumber, spices, and topped with fresh mint and lemon zest.

People have been enjoying yogurt for centuries, and in our modern day time yogurt continues to be an important part of our diet. Many of us often have yogurt for breakfast with cereal or granola or even add it on top of fruits and smoothies.

There are endless options to consume and enjoy yogurt; from incorporating it in baking recipes to making flavored frozen-yogurt with it, using it in marinades to tenderize meets and even put it in different sauces to accompany other dishes.

This easy to make yogurt sauce is a flavorsome, fresh and tangy food accompaniment. Today, people around the Mediterranean still enjoy yogurt as a side dish with a tinge of garlic, mint and diced cucumber.

Ingredients Needed:

To make this Spiced Yogurt Sauce you will need full–fat milk yogurt, cucumber, lemon zest, and chopped fresh mint. You also need some seasoning and spices like paprika, turmeric, cumin, and cayenne pepper.

How to Make Spiced Yogurt Sauce

Start by cutting the cucumber into small pieces, I usually slit the cucumber to two equal parts and scrap the flesh and seeds with a spoon then dice it to desired size.

In a mixing bowl whisk the yogurt, cucumber, paprika, turmeric, cumin, lemon zest, salt and chopped fresh mint. Cover and store in the refrigerator until serving time.

Garnish with extra lemon zest, some paprika and a couple fresh mint leaves upon serving.

What to Serve Yogurt Sauce with

Spiced Yogurt Sauce is a great condiment to serve with many vegetarian and grilled dishes.

I like to have it with: Lentils with Rice, Beef Meatballs or Garlic Coriander Potatoes. The options are literary endless.

Spiced Yogurt Sauce—this Mediterranean Spiced Yogurt Sauce is creamy, fresh and very delicious. Made with yogurt, cucumber, spices, and topped with fresh mint and lemon zest.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole-milk plain yogurt
  • 1 cucumber, seeded, diced to small pieces
  • 1 tablespoon fresh mint, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk all ingredients together and place in the refrigerator covered until serving time.
  2. Serve garnished with mint leaves, fresh lemon zest and a sprinkle of paprika on top.
